The Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon was the marathon with the longest history in Japan, run for over 75 editions. The elite race has been for men only with approximately 300 entries each year. Starting from 2022, the race relocates to Osaka, using the course route of the present Osaka Marathon.
The new combined event brings the mass Osaka Marathon and elite Lake Biwa Mainichi marathon together on the same date. The elite race level of the Lake Biwa Mainichi Marathon will be maintained on the Osaka Marathon course route.
