3 MAY 2015: VOLKSWAGEN PRAGUE MARATHON, CZECH REPUBLIC
Coming from behind Felix Kandie took his second marathon win in a succession with another personal best. Yebrgual Melese of Ethiopia clocked the race's third fastest winning time 10,000 runners took part.
The lead group resisted the pace of the designated pacemaker and took things relatively easy through the first half in 64:00. By 30km Evans Chebet and Kipchumbaled by 22 seconds with a chasing group of four comprising Kenyans Felix Kandie and Geoffrey Ronoh and Ethiopians Fikre Assefa and Deribe Robi. Chebet surged at 32km but Kandie quickly broke up the chasing group and covered the distance from 30–35km in 14:54 to all but catch Chebet. He overtook soon after and went on to build a big lead.
The women's race was much faster during the first half with Kenya's Janet Rono storming through 10km in 33:45 and Sarah Moreira following 100m behind her. Another 16 seconds back was the big group with all the Ethiopian contenders. By half way (71:43), Rono began to slow and the Ethiopians were starting to close. Moreira hung on to the group when it caught her but Rono was quickly dropped. They group of Ethiopians, plus Moreira, passed 30km in 1:42:53. Yebrgual Melese surged and the small group broke up. She finished strongly over the final 5km and took a full minute out of Moreira. Rono rallied to take fourth place.

3 MAY 2015: SALZBURG MARATHON, AUSTRIA
Photos: Salzburg Marathon / Bryan Reinhart
In rainy but otherwise good conditions 6500 runners from 60 nations enjoyed a great 12th edition of this "festival of running" in the home city of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Karl Aumayr, Austrian national champion in 2012, celebrated an emotional farewell in front of his home crowd in winning the men's race while women's winner Shewaye Gemechu Debelu triumphed in her first international marathon.
The two-lap course combines the atmosphere of Salzburg's historic city, a UNESCO world heritage site, with pleasant green stretches and scenic views of the nearby mountains. The start and finish are in the famous Residenzplatz in the very heart of the city. Shorter races were held alongside the marathon including a half marathon and City Run.

10 MAY 2015: BIG BERLIN 25km, GERMANY
Sutume Asefa Kebede stormed away from the start and kept going right to the finish line in the historic Berlin Olympic Stadium. She smashed the Ethiopian record despite very windy conditions. The 21-year old's time is a world lead and the fifth fastest ever run. Abraham Cheroben defended his title with a world lead.
11,480 runners registered for the 35th edition which back in 1981 was Germany's first major city road race.
A tailwind and a downgrade made the first 10km very fast with the four leaders passing through in 28:30 on world record pace — a record set by Dennis Kimetto on this course in 2012. Pacing finished at 11km and they turned into a headwind. Kilometre splits dropped by almost ten seconds from 2:51 to slightly over three minutes.
Temesegne Ejerssa worked hard in the lead and dropped Kenneth Kipkemoi after 17km but he could not shake Cheroben. The defending champion attack with around 6km to go on a slightly uphill section, and built a decisive lead.
Kebede ran with a pacemaker through 10km in 31:05 — well inside Mary Keitany's world record pace of 2010, when she ran 1:19:53. Kebede slowed into the wind but still posted a world-class time (passing the half marathon distance in 1:08:23).

10 MAY 2015: WIZZ AIR SKOPJE MARATHON, MACEDONIA
As a result of the new situation in the country and for safety reasons, regretfully for the many sports lovers who eagerly awaited this event, this year's traditional Wizz Air Skopje Marathon was canceled at the request of the competent institutions.
"We express our deep regret for the current situation and we sympathize with the families of the deceased soldiers. Because of security breach in the state, Wizz Air Skopje Marathon was canceled. We are aware that in this way, the marathon sympathizers from many countries, have been disappointed. We were preparing for this event throughout the whole year with a lot of effort and enthusiasm, eagerly awaiting the beginning and the celebration of one of the most respected and visited sports events in the country, but this was the only way, through preventive measures, to ensure the safety of all involved, which of course was and still is our main priority."

Mosinet Geremew and Mamitu Daska won the 8th edition of the race in very similar fashion, breaking away from the few remaining contenders on the final gently downhill quarter of the course and never being seriously challenged from there until the finish in the Kanteerava Stadium. The difference was that Geremew sat within the group for the earlier stages of the race but Daska relentlessy front-ran her race. After breaking clear at 7.5km she went on to build up 75m winning margin. The last to let go was Wude Ayalew who was then overtaken by Gladys Chesir. Entering the stadium 15m down with 350m to run former winner Ayalew treated the stadium crowd to a storming finish to claim the runner-up spot.

A record 49,317 participants from 51 countries descended on Canada's capital city for this year's Ottawa race weekend — a series of 6 races spread across Saturday [Children's Run, 2k, 5k, 10k] and Sunday [marathon & half-marathon].
Despite a brisk wind on Saturday evening sunny skies, a moderate temperature of 17°C and large numbers of spectators all contributed to a fine early-summer spectacle. The women won the $2,000 cash bonus in the "Battle of the Sexes" thanks to some impressive racing from Gladys Cherono. Canadians Lanni Marchant and Natasha Wodak had a spirited tussle for third which Marchant won by 10 seconds. The men were unable to close the 3:25 gap given to the women as a head start but still posted some competitive times.
Conditions were ideal for the 6000 runners in the 41st Scotiabank Ottawa Marathon on Sunday morning. Overcast skies, 11°C, and only a light breeze contributed to some ambitious racing. A pack of 12, with 3 pacers led the men out on 3-minute pace, chasing the course and Canadian All-Comers Record of 2:06:54 set by Yemane Tsegay in Ottawa last year. The pack stayed together and passed halfway in 1:03:16. Then the excitement boiled over with a 14:41 split from 20–25km. After they hit Alexandra Bridge over the scenic Ottawa River after 26km and climbed up from the river only eventual winner Girmay Berhanu, Philip Kangogo and Alfers Lagat remained with the final pacer. They hit 30km in 1:29:49 with the record still in sight, but the damage has been done. Berhanu managed to drop the Kenyans with two surges at 32km and 35km, but his pace fell to over 3:15 per kilometre and he eventually crossed the line 1:20 adrift of the course record in his fourth marathon finish in seven months.
The women's race was equally exciting as 31 year old Aberu Mekuria ran a 37-second PB and her best performance in two years to defeat strong favourite Meselech Melkamu. Ethiopians Mekuria, Melkamu, and Abebech Afework battled it out with Kenyan Rebecca Chesire from 30km [1:42:42] to 40k [2:18:06] before Mekuria dropped the hammer to pull away from Chesire who finished very pleased in second place while Melkamu faded to a disappointed fifth.

31 MAY 2015: 28th AUSTRIAN WOMEN'S RUN
A record 33,139 women and girls from 90 nations started the Austrian Women's Run, one of the top three worldwide. Last year's winner and record holder (from 2011) Ana Dulce Félix set out to defend her title and 100% record in the three previous editions she has contested. She led for the first kilometre closely followed by the strong international elite group. The top five were clear by 2km and at 3km Jessica O'Connell from Canada detached herself from the group to lead from a distance. With 500m to go she launched a sensational final sprint to win by eight seconds. "So many people cheering; it's a great atmosphere," she said.
Austrian's 10000m national champion Jennifer Wenth rose to the strong international challenge to take a creditable third just ahead of Ana Dulce Felix. Austrian national athletes backed up Wenth's performance in ninth and tenth places
The largest award ceremony in Austria took place after the race in the festival grounds of the Vienna Prater.

31 MAY 2015: EDINBURGH MARATHON FESTIVAL, GREAT BRITAIN
Over 30,000 runners from across the globe gathered for Scotland's biggest running festival. Windy conditions slowed times and even the winner Peter Wanjiru, who broke away at 30km for an otherwise untroubled win complained: "The last mile was very difficult, the wind was blocking me." Hometown runner Neil Renault took a crowd-pleasing second place as more heralded runners struggled with the blustery conditions. "You always convince yourself that you are slowing down more than anyone else" he said "But it turns out I was running faster. You have to respect the conditions. I sacrificed at the start knowing I needed to be stronger in the second half into the wind." Joan Kigen led the women's race from gun to tape.
Alan Mackay completed the grand slam of marathon, half marathon, 10km and 5km races over the weekend, covering 77km in race distances. "In order to get back to the start of the marathon, I needed to do the half in 1:30. I did that but I found the marathon tough around 15km.
