Gulf Bank 642 Marathon
Sat 17 November 2018
Six hundred and forty-two is the number of muscles in the human body. That’s where the marathon’s “move your 642 muscles” slogan comes from.
Gulf Bank 642 Marathon is tailor-made for every individual who wants to experience a run through the beautiful landmarks of Kuwait. From challenging fully-fledged athletes to providing a start for beginners and families, this event caters for everyone. Gulf Bank 642 Marathon is the first road race in Kuwait that is AIMS-accredited.
The race tours through the most famous landmarks of Kuwait including the Grand Mosque, Souq Al Mubarakiya (the Old Market), the Kuwait Towers, the National Assembly, Sief Palace and Souq Sharq.
Twice nominated for the Best Sporting Event in the Middle East by Sport Industry Awards, it is a race full of colour that brings people from all around the world together to have an extraordinary, adrenaline-rushing experience in Kuwaiti style.
As part of a social responsibility programme Gulf Bank 642 supports a particular cause each year to raise awareness and donations. Since 2016 Gulf Bank 642 Marathon has been supporting UNHCR. The goal is to help their donation campaign and collect as much as possible to support.
The full offering of the event includes races at distances of 5km, 10km, half marathon and Marathon. Road closures start from 07.00 and last until midday. All races start from the race village at Souq Sharq, facing the sea and next to the cinema. There is a welcoming red-carpet atmosphere before an official warm-up at 07.15. The races start at 07.30 and the cut-off time is six hours. The post-race awards ceremony begins at 18.00.
