A Russian summer landscape that will stay in your memory for a long time

Golden Ring Ultra Trail 100

Golden Ring Ultra Trail 100
Sun 23 July 2017

The ‘Golden Ring’ ultra trail event takes place in Suzdal, one of the oldest cities in Russia. It lies just 220km from Moscow and is home to a lot of beautiful landmarks. There are over 300 chapels, churches and other monuments in the city situated at the heart of Russia and of Russian history.

The main idea behind the Golden Ring Ultra Trail race was to create something great in Suzdal, something that would support the trail running community of Russia and which would allow the beauty of Russia to be presented to runners from overseas. Here you can run, take a holiday and enjoy Russian hospitality and food.

2017 will be the third running of the event after its inauguration in 2015. To get to Suzdal city, you can transfer from Moscow using the arrangement organised by the race or you can apply to us for a private transfer. There are many different hotels and hostels in the city to suit various budgets, and local restaurants and cafes where you can try delicious Russian food.

Suzdal city is a great destination for a vacation, to walk around, visit historical monuments, do some shopping, buy souvenirs, enjoy traditional Russian restaurants (dumplings, pancakes, medovuha) and see how people live. Combining all this with the race will make an amazing experience.

There are four different distances offered. A 10km city run takes you on a tour of the landmarks of the town. The T30-T50 and T100 are for real lovers of trail running.

Running trail races is quite difficult. You need to run across city streets, through natural landscape and along the banks of a river. Some sections lead you through the forest and across wild fields. You need strong legs to run through nettle brush, tall grass and a few bits of swamp. Overall the scenery is a classical Russian summer landscape with scented flowers and great views. You may also catch some wild life on the course, such a moose or wild boar, or hedgehogs. In summertime Suzdal, and the Russian countryside in general, is at its most charming. Morning temperatures are cool and fresh. It gradually gets warmer during the day and can become hot, which makes the race harder — but this is a trail race: it should be hard.

Last year registration closed early because of outstanding demand. Runners pick up race numbers at the expo on 22 July. There is also a pasta party, a runners’ briefing, booths of the race partners and some local folk performances. The races are on 23 July.

As organisers we are runners ourselves and love trail running. It is a way of life and makes it shine with full colour. This run will stay in your memories for a very long time.
