The city of joy, Kolkata, is an amalgamation of colonial splendour enriched with Indian heritage. Popularly known as the cultural capital of India, the city is synonymous with culinary vibrancy and sporting culture. This sports-crazy city is now host to one of the biggest mass-participation sporting events — the Tata Steel Kolkata 25K. This unique distance running event gives professional athletes, serious runners, and health and fitness enthusiasts good reason to rejoice.

The event is promoted by Procam International — India’s leading sports management company — which sparked a running movement in India as promoters of the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon, the prestigious Airtel Delhi Half Marathon and the premier Tata Consultancy Services World 10K.

The third edition of the event will be flagged off from the historic Red Road and the online registration process will start on 23 September. Runners will be competing for prize money in excess of USD 34,000 across two different race categories — 25K and 10km for both elite and amateur runners.

The mass-participation races, which consist of the Ananda Run (6km), the Senior Citizens’ Run (4.3 km), and Champions with Disability (1.75 km) event, attract colour and showcase the exuberant spirit of the city. These various categories give an equal opportunity to all to participate and encourage an active sporting lifestyle.

Hugh Jones, former London Marathon Winner and Secretary of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races is the event’s race director. The course is carefully crafted to give a glimpse of the city’s most majestic features. Participants will wend their way past the Raj Bhavan, the Mecca of cricket Eden Gardens, under the behemoth Howrah Railway Bridge over the Hooghly River, past the iconic Fort William Golf Course and the Victoria Memorial before returning to the Red Road finish line.

The race is gaining popularity not only as East India’s premier sporting extravaganza but also as an event with a social conscience. Since inception the associated charity drive has aimed to inspire individuals and improve the lives of thousands through funds raised. Leading the charity drive is the event’s philanthropy partner United Way Kolkata. Participants ‘run for a reason’ by choosing their own charity and supporting the cause closest to their heart.

Seize your chance to join a sporting and social event that embodies the spirit of this amazing city.
