International Marathon Varadero
Sun 30 March 2025
The International Varadero Marathon is a very special sport event organised in the Caribbean, a paradise where the sun always shines and dream beaches lie all around in the gorgeous country of Cuba.
The first edition of the International Half Marathon in Varadero was held on 15 April 2018. Organised by the Cuban Athletics Federation, Alberto Juantorena is the head of the organising committee which includes Olympic medal winners Ana Fidelia Quirot, Javier Sotomayor, Caridad Colon, Dayron Robles and Jorge Luis Aguilera.
There are two kinds of races to choose between, running and skating, each with three distances: 10km, 21km, 42km and also a non-competitive 3km fun run.
This is a unique and first class event in which the participants enjoy running in a beautiful natural environment together with Olympic champions and other elite runners from international athletics. Timothy Kiplagat (second place in the 2023 Tokyo Marathon with 02:02:55) participated in the Half Marathon of Varadero twice, in 2018 and 2019.
The International Varadero Marathon offers runners a flat circuit. The race starts and finishes in the Central Park (8000 capacity) in the city of Varadero. The first kilometre of the race is along First Avenue with the famous ‘Josone Park’ on the right.
