No matter what pace or what distance you run, there is always a space for everyone in the Erbil Marathon. If you are not prepared for the full marathon then run the half marathon or the 10km – or if you would just like to enjoy your day then the 4km family and fun run. There are many reasons why you should choose Erbil.

Firstly, Erbil contains hundreds of archaeological sites: among the most famous is the Erbil Citadel. With an 8000-year long history it is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in the world. The Citadel offers great views over the city.

Secondly, use your visit to discover the Kurdistan region and Kurdish culture. The area is home to multiple ethnicities and religions, one of which, Yazidism, is practiced only in Kurdistan and has tens of thousands of adherents.

Thirdly, the security situation in the Kurdistan Region is quite the opposite to the rest of Iraq. It is completely safe and there is no cause for any concern. You will have no difficulties with visas as you will be granted a free 15-day visa at the airport if you are from Europe, USA or several other countries.
