5 SEPTEMBER 2015: JUNGFRAU MARATHON, SWITZERLAND
"Conditions today were incredible" said Shaban Mustafa who won the race on his third attempt. "The scenery, the atmosphere — it all carried me to victory." The 37-year old ran a controlled race, shaking off his toughest rivals on the Wixi climb at 38km including this year's newly-crowned mountain running world champion.
Patrick Wieser, a marathon specialist and police officer from Thurgau Canton, narrowly missed a spot on the podium.
It was a hat-trick for Aline Camboulives who had the race under control at all times. "I overtook Ethiopian Deme Meseret at Wixi and had no difficulties" she said. Local athlete Conny Berchtold won a podium place in third: "I trained very hard for this marathon all year" she said.
Race director Christoph Seiler handed over after 15 years in charge as he now assumes the Presidency of Swiss Athletics. Two top Swiss athletes joined him and they symbolically passed a relay baton between them and on through Seiler to his successor Tony Alpinice.

20 SEPTEMBER 2015: 35th BEIJING MARATHON, CHINA
41-year-old Kenyan veteran Mariko Kiplagat Kipchumba, 41, ran down the pre-race favourite who is almost half his age writes Vincent Wu. Kipchumba was in the lead group from the start of the race, reaching 15km in 45:00, 25km in 1:16 and 35km in 1:48. As the race went on, the pack kept shrinking.
Favoiurite Berhau Shiferaw slowed after 30km, leaving Kipchumba and Uganda's Jackson Kiprop, the 10th-place finisher at the World Championships, out in front. But he passed Kiprop before 35km to draw level with Kipchumba although the veteran soon pulled away again and never looked back.
Kipchumba won the 2014 Xiamen Marathon and plans to return. "My next goal is to win the Xiamen Marathon next year."
In the women's race Ethiopian duo Abebech Afework and Betelhem Moges ran together until after 30km but Moges steadily built up a lead over the final 10km which stretched to almost 500m at the finish. China's world 20km race walk champion Liu Hong ran to raise awareness of the importance of exercising among the public, and finished ninth in 2:51:23.

A group of nine men were still together after 25km. Shadrack Kemboi made a move around 30km, opening up a gap which gradually grew until the finish line. After a 1:07:01 first half Kemboi covered the second half in 1:04:40. All three of his marathon victories to date have been in South Africa, having won in Soweto in 2012 and Johannesburg in 2013. South Africa's former New York Marathon champion Hendrick Ramaala was 10th in 2:17:12.
Isabella Ochichi had Bahrain's Eunice Chumba for company in the first half which was covered in 1:14:22 — well inside course record pace. Chumba then faded leaving the 2004 Olympic 5000m silver medallist to take her first marathon victory.
In only its second year, the race boasted a mass field of 5728 with entrants from the USA, Germany, UK, Sweden, Canada, Ethiopia, Namibia, Zambia and Japan.

20 SEPTEMBER 2015: CORRIDA DE LA MUJER 10km, COLOMBIA
Belaynesh Oljira powered away from Kenya's Veronica Nyaruai in the final 1200m of the race writes Derek Froude. She was just five seconds short of the course record she set last year.
Under cloudy skies and with temperatures a near ideal 15°C, no one wanted to lead. All the foreign entrants and two top Colombians passed two kilometres in seven minutes dead. But then Veronicah Nyaruai took the initiative and by 3km only three runners together at the front with Oljira tucked in behind along with her fellow Ethiopian Buze Diriba.
Nyaruai she surged again after 5km, after seeing her rivals would not share the task of leading, and dropped Diriba but Oljira began a push of her own.
Just before 9km finally broke free and opened up a gap of 50 metres that she held down the long finish straight.
Nyaruai clutched at her side as she crossed the start line timing mats and came to a halt and doubled up in pain. Only the screams of the crowd alerted Nyaruai and she was able to summon the effort to cross the actual finish line a bare second ahead of Diriba.
One of the largest all-women's races in the world, this year's Carrera de la Mujer had 17,000 entrants in the 10km, and 5000 more in the couples run 5km and mothers and babies run 2km that were held before the main event.

20 SEPTEMBER 2015: SIBERIAN INTERNATIONAL MARATHON, RUSSIA
Pre-race favourites Albina Mayorova and Laban Moiben of Kenya took wins in from the cold writes Natalia Maryanchik. It was 8°C at the start but little wind alleviated the conditions slightly.
After a 13-year absence Mayorova returned to Omsk for the first time since setting a course record of 2:30:31 in 2002. The 38-year-old more recently finished ninth at the 2012 Olympics. Oksana Fashchenko, a 31-year-old whose PB was 17 minutes slower than Mayorova's and who was contesting just the second marathon of her career, had a lead of more than two minutes after 30km. But Mayorova closed the gap and took the lead at 40km. Mayorova said that she was going to run a marathon in the spring and then try to qualify for the 2016 Olympic team.
Laban Moiben led the pack comfortably and increased his lead in the closing stages. His his main rivals on paper, defending champion John Kyui and Boris Zhilyaev, faded and finished outside the top five. Though his victory may have appeared easy Moiben needed medical attention after the race. "I felt cold in the end," he said. Kyui put his disappointing performance down to the problems he had getting to Omsk. After visa troubles his luggage got lost in transit and he had to run in borrowed shoes and kit lent by local athletes.
Including the 5km and 10km races, more than 7000 people took part.

20 SEPTEMBER 2015: BLACKMORE'S SYDNEY RUNNING FESTIVAL MARATHON, AUSTRALIA
Japan's Hisanori Kitajima and Miriam Wangari of Kenya waited patiently for their chances writes Len Johnson. Even approaching 40km Kitajima and his compatriot Hiroki Yamagishi appeared overshadowed by defending champion Gebo Burka of Ethiopia and Kenya's Nicholas Chelimo as they duelled for the win. But Kitajima quickly left the two favourites in his wake as he dashed down towards the Sydney Harbour foreshore for the final kilometre around Circular Quay to the famous Sydney Opera House. Only Yamagishi was able to respond.
Ethiopia's Biruktayit Eshetu was going for a third consecutive win and a course record in the women's race. But soon after Eshetu and Kenyans Miriam Wangari and Jane Kiptoo went past the 30km mark together Eshetu dropped back and the two Kenyans led by 37 seconds at 35km. Wangari forged a similar lead over Kiptoo in the next 5km and went on to win by more than a minute.
Both races were slower in the second half than the first, killing any chance of race records. Sydney has many twists and turns and changes of surface over the last few kilometres which takes a toll on the legs.

27 SEPTEMBER 2015: BMW BERLIN MARATHON, GERMANY
Eliud Kipchoge and Gladys Cherono both set personal bests and world-leading times in ideal weather conditions. Expectations of Kipchoge possibly extending Berlin's long string of world record-setting performances lasted well into the race: as late as 35km, he was on schedule for 2:03:30. But in the final stages, having dropped all his rivals after an injection of pace at around 31km, he slowed slightly to 3 mins/kilometre. What was most surprising was that he had been suffering shoe problems from the first kilometre. This later became obvious to all as the insoles projected from his shoes as if they were Mercury's wings. Gladys Cherono became only the second woman (after Paula Radcliffe) to debut faster than 2:23 (2:20:03 in Dubai this year) and then improve on that in her second outing.
A group of six runners were escorted though the first half of the men s race in 1:01:53 by four pacemakers. Kipchoge pushed on after the last pacemaker dropped out at 29km. His surge immediately dropped Geoffrey Mutai and soon had the remaining trio of Eliud Kiptanui, Feyisa Lilesa and training partner Emmanuel Mutai trailing behind him as he ran the 32nd kilometre in 2:48. The personal best he had improved was his 2:04:05 performance when finishing second two years ago in Berlin to Wilson Kipsang's former world record of 2:03:23.
Gladys Cherono had three Ethiopians for company in the earlier stages: two-time Berlin winner Aberu Kebede, Meseret Hailu and Tadelech Bekele. Cherono and Kebede drew clear before 20km and passed halfway in 1:10:15, Cherono increased the pace just before 35km and eased away from Kebede to become the 19th woman to duck under the 2:20 barrier since Naoko Takahashi first did so on this course fourteen years earlier.
A total of 41,224 runners started.
