Guangzhou Marathon

Starting in 2012 Guangzhou Marathon has become a signature international sports event in Guangzhou. It has been certified as the Chinese Athletics Association Gold Medal Race for six consecutive years since 2014 and the World Athletics Gold/Elite Label Race since 2018. Proudly presented by the local government, the race takes place each year on the second Sunday of December and attracts large numbers of runners from home and abroad. Guangzhou, the ‘South Gate’ of China with a history of more than 2200 years, is one of the busiest and the most prosperous metropolises in the country. The AIMS-certified Guangzhou Marathon course runs along the banks of the Pearl River, showcasing the best scenery and the profound history of the city. The course starts from the south plaza of Tianhe Sports Centre and passes by many of the city’s landmarks including the Canton Tower, Liede Bridge - which is the highest point of the course and provides a marvellous view of the Pearl River, the Mansion of Canton Customs (c.1916, one of the most impressive concession-era structures along the waterfront) and many more scenic spots. This year the race is scheduled on 10 December. We welcome all runners, visitors and friends from all over the world to experience the vibrancy and the unique charm of our city through the Guangzhou Marathon.
