TbilisiMarathon was established in 2012 as an initiative of HeidelbergCement Caucasus, one of the largest German investors in the Caucasus region.

It has since become Georgia’s biggest and most prestigious running event. The race has more than 2000 runners and participation is increasing each year.

HeidelbergCement Caucasus provides the organising team for the event which is held under the patronage of Tbilisi City Hall, the Embassy of Germany in Georgia and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia.

Tbilisi Half Marathon is held in the very heart of the capital of Georgia, beautiful Tbilisi City. Full road closures are in place for the event. The course includes numerous attractive points of interest. Due to the undulating profile of the city it is a challenge for runners but nevertheless well manageable even for those who want to make their debut.

TbilisiMarathon includes the Half Marathon the 10km and children’s runs of 500m and 1.2km. These are free and the longer events charge very modest registration fees.

Besides promoting healthy lifestyle and charity, TbilisiMarathon aims at developing tourism and promoting the city of Tbilisi worldwide. Located on the crossroads of Europe and Asia, Tbilisi offers its visitors a warm and friendly atmosphere, delicious unique and healthy traditional food, amazing infrastructure and nature. The combination of original architecture and natural beauty gives it inimitable charm and colour. Tbilisi is considered one of the safest cities in the world. The quiet winding sunny streets, terraces of houses wreathed with vines, ancient churches with tiled domes, the ruins of old monasteries, traditional Georgian yards with intricate carved porches and numerous restaurants are all simply irresistible. A part of your soul will stay forever in this charming nook in exchange for a little piece of Tbilisi which you are going to take with you…

The race attracts international guests from up to 60 countries. 120 teams participated in TbilisiMarathon 2016. Funds raised from registration were matched by HeidelbergCement and dedicated to the construction of the first Children’s Hospice in Georgia. So each registered participant is contributing to the cause.

The organising team plans to add a full marathon to their offering in the near future.

Runners from all over the world are most welcome and invited to register from 1 April on www.tbilisimarathon.ge
