Northern Marathon welcomes new ambassador

A vascular and endovascular surgeon and accomplished endurance athlete, Dr. Russel became the first Bangladeshi doctor to swim across the Bangla Channel in 2021. His endurance record includes IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi in 2022 and 2023, IRONMAN Hamburg in 2025 and IRONMAN 70.3 Colombo in 2026.

With more than 10,000 complex vascular and endovascular surgeries to his credit, Dr. Russel has also been an advocate for health and an active lifestyle. His appointment reflects Northern Marathon’s commitment to promoting health, endurance, discipline and personal challenge.

Northern Marathon is being developed as a distinctive road-running event in Northern Bangladesh, taking marathon running beyond the traditional city environment and introducing runners to a different part of the country.

The Marathon Category Qualifying Standards have been published. Applications for the qualifying process will be accepted 23–25 September 2026, with registration for all categories opening on 2 October 2026.
