Porto Marathon EDP
Sun 8 November 2015
This year the Porto Marathon celebrates its 12th running. During its short life so far it has hosted thousands of runners from around the world in Portugal’s atmospheric second city.
Porto Marathon is a premier event in Portugal’s sports tourism calendar.
Last year more than 5000 runners from 40 different countries registered and Porto Marathon set a new national finishers’ record, confirming the event as the largest Marathon in Portugal. Should you not want to go the whole 42195 metres there are other options: a 15 km run and a 6km walk.
Combining the Atlantic seacoast and the Douro River estuary the course is remarkably flat. It passes through three cities and crosses the river out and back on the lower level of the Eiffel bridge. Porto Marathon offers a life time experience.
Porto is one of the oldest tourist destinations in Europe, classed as a Unesco World Heritage site since 1996 and twice named as the ‘Best European Destination’ (in 2012 and 2014) by European citizens.
Its wealth of artistic heritage, the rich gastronomy and viniculture – including the famous Port wine, open-air leisure spaces and cultural life are just some of the reasons to visit this city. Porto in November is usually around 12–16ºC, ideal for marathon running.
