One month to go

Children are back at school, and for the many thousands of supporters of Slovakia’s largest and most traditional sporting event, the final month before the start is now underway.

Once again, we have plenty of news to share with you. Before we get to some of the more detailed stories, here is a quick overview of the latest updates.

Even though we are doing our best to increase the participation limits for the 103rd edition of the Košice Peace Marathon at least slightly, there are not many places left.

On the eve of this newsletter’s publication, registrations passed the mark of 18 215 runners from 70 countries.
Mark 11 September in your calendar. This is the final day on which you can transfer your entry to another person. If a serious issue prevents you from taking part, don’t wait any longer. Please do not, however, pass your registration on to another person in any way that violates the official rules.

The final adjustments to the marathon course are also nearing completion. You can read more about the course in one of the articles below. Before you get there, here are a few updates: the extensive repaving works at Dolná bránaú / Lower Gate near the finish are almost complete, the short uphill section by Jakab’s Palace will now take you over a brand-new asphalt surface, and the kilometre marks along the entire course have already been painted in their traditional blue colour.

The Marathon on Jednotka. These words mean a great deal to runners, organisers and partners of the Košice Peace Marathon. Broadcasting the race live on STVR’s flagship channel Jednotka reflects both the extraordinary popularity of the event and its strong audience ratings, which also play an important role when our television partner plans its programming. Last year, according to peoplemeter data, the broadcast reached as many as 533,000 TV viewers across all platforms.

Saturday’s packed programme will kick off with a brand-new event – the Košice Marathon Social Run. So, if you would like to meet friends, pacemakers and runners arriving in Košice from all over the world on 3 October, register for this activity free of charge here.
