The final preparation phase for the Volksbank Münster Marathon has begun. The last 12 weeks are underway – now the intensive marathon training begins for all those who want to tackle the ultimate challenge of 42.195 km.

And this year, the 24th edition of the Volksbank Münster Marathon promises to be another very special event. Above all, the hunt for a new course record will be a major focus.

For the first time, alongside the East African runners, other runners will be among the top contenders, all with serious ambitions for the overall victory. Among them is Lisa Huwatschek from Hanover, who set a new personal best of 2:33:23 in Berlin two years ago. In the elite field, she could finish in the top three in Münster, and the prospect of winning the Atlantic Hotel Münster prize as the fastest German runner is almost guaranteed. She’s looking forward to her first marathon in Münster – and Münster is delighted to have a top German runner competing in the marathon. One of Germany’s fastest runners, Esther Pfeiffer, will be commentating on the women’s finish from the finish line stage.

In the men’s race, Ignacio Francisco Erario Nunez from Argentina plans to compete. With a personal best of 2:09:49, which he ran earlier this year in Enschede, he could take the overall victory. Ignacio hopes to be inspired by the fantastic crowd in Münster and break the Argentine national record, currently held by Joaquin Arbe at 2:09:36. Because of the incredible atmosphere in Münster, he opted for the Volksbank Münster Marathon instead of the Buenos Aires Marathon, which takes place a week later, in order to improve the national Argentinian record. Alongside a pacemaker, Kenyan Simon Ewar Kameto, who has a personal best, will also be keeping pace. He aims to break the course record of 2:09:06 hours for the first time in Münster, which would be just two seconds faster than his previous best time from last year.

But there’s also plenty of excitement planned to thrill the projected number of just over 12,000 runners across all disciplines. More than 300 performers will be on hand, including several bands, drum and dance groups, cheerleaders, acrobats, stilt walkers, and much more – a large, city-wide festival is in the starting blocks for the “pre-anniversary” – the 24th Volksbank Münster Marathon.

However, a great atmosphere is also guaranteed to excite the projected number of participants, just over 12,000 runners across all disciplines. “Elite meets amateur sport” – a wonderful festival where both world-class athletes and the average beginner runner take part. The Volksbank Münster Marathon offers everything from the 6.2 km run for novice runners to the ultimate challenge, the marathon. It’s an absolute “fun” event, where the best fan groups are also recognized through a dedicated fan project. Last year, over 80,000 spectators lined the course and crossed the finish line, making this annual event truly unique.
