If you’re looking for your next big international race there’s a compelling reason to look to Peru.
Founded in 1909 the KIA Lima Half Marathon is the oldest half marathon in the world, a historic legacy recognised with the World Athletics Heritage Plaque. Participating is being part of more than a century of running history.
Your experience begins on arrival at the modern Jorge Chávez International Airport, one of Latin America’s most important air hubs and the gateway to Lima, a cosmopolitan capital of over 11 million inhabitants. It’s also the only capital city in South America located directly on the Pacific Ocean, internationally renowned for its vibrant culture and some of the world’s most celebrated cuisines.
In the days leading up to the race, you can explore the city on foot. Lima offers spectacular coastal routes, from the Pacific cliffs to the parks and avenues of iconic districts like Miraflores, San Isidro, and Barranco. These are perfect spaces to train while enjoying unique ocean views.
Lima is also an ideal destination for pre-race carb-loading. You’ll find an extraordinary culinary scene, including Peruvian, Nikkei, Italian, Italian Peruvian and international cuisine in world-renowned restaurants.
Race day begins in Lima’s historic centre. Surrounded by colonial architecture, traditional plazas and heritage buildings, you’ll embark on a route that blends history, culture, and modernity with every kilometre.
The route connects the historic heart with contemporary Lima, showcasing wide avenues and the dynamism of the Peruvian capital. This contrast makes the course visually memorable for runners from around the world. Another great attraction is the flat and fast course. Running practically at sea level, it offers ideal conditions for setting a personal best in the 21.1-kilometre race.
The weather is also on your side. The race takes place during Lima’s winter, when temperatures typically range between 14°C and 16°C, considered ideal for long-distance running.
When you cross the finish line, the experience continues. Waterfront restaurants, historic neighbourhoods, coastal promenades, and an open and welcoming running community will allow you to celebrate your achievement in a vibrant city.
Running here is about experiencing a story that began more than a century ago.
