Jungfrau-Marathon
Fri 5 September 2025
The 32nd Jungfrau Marathon will be remembered as a day full of sunshine, emotions, and top sporting performances.
In ideal conditions – sunny, dry, and pleasantly cool – 3,612 runners from 66 nations tackled the 42.195 kilometers with 1,953 meters of elevation gain from Interlaken to the Eiger Glacier. This year’s strong participation of younger athletes was also striking.
Shortly after the start in Interlaken, the favorites set the pace. Olympic athlete Laura Hottenrott (GER) dominated the women’s race, winning with a new course record of 3:17:35.
In the men’s race, Erik Hille (GER) celebrated a well-deserved victory in 3:03:54, following his second-place finish last year, followed by last year’s winner Vitaliy Shafar (UKR) and Robbie Simpson (SCO). Jerome Furer from Thun was the best Swiss runner, finishing fourth. Martina Strähl (SUI) took third place in the women’s race, and Kirsten De Baey-Ruszin (GER) finished second.
The course once again captivated with its unique scenery: from the start on the Höhematte in Interlaken, through Lauterbrunnen and Wengen, up to the finish at the Eiger Glacier, always accompanied by the panorama of the striking trio of Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau.
The weekend offered many highlights, not only in terms of sport, but also in terms of atmosphere: the opening program with enthusiastic amateur runners and children on Friday evening in Interlaken, the Harder Run Race with winners Selina Burch and Jonathan Schmid, the atmospheric Flower Ceremony in the finish area on the Eiger Glacier, the Jungfrau Zumba event, and two free concerts by the “Crazy Mofos” created a captivating atmosphere and lively mood.
