Volksbank-Münster-Marathon
Sun 21 September 2025
There are only a little over two weeks left until the start of the 23rd edition of the Volksbank Münster Marathon, which is already boasting a record participation of over 12,000 participants, including over 4,000 marathon runners.
At 9:00 a.m. on September 21, 2025, Volksbank CEO Andreas Hartmann and honorary mayor Angela Stähler will fire the starting gun for the premier event. At 9:15 a.m., the starting gun will be fired for the 1,500 relay teams for the 19th Atruvia Relay Marathon, led by board member Daniela Bücker, flanked by the celebrity relay team of the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation, featuring celebrities such as Prof. Dr. Felix Brych, Germany’s most famous referee, actress Nele Kiper, television presenter Maja Weber, and a person affected by the disease. They will compete against all the mixed relay teams, where a sponsor will donate a sum of money to the José Carreras Leukemia Foundation for each relay team that beats the celebrity relay team.
Next Tuesday, September 9, 2025, preparations will enter the “hot” phase – starting at 8:30 p.m. on the Schlossplatz, all preparations will be made for drawing the blue racing line over the entire 42.195-kilometer course. After a few test runs and machine tests, the race will then begin at 9:00 p.m. with a police escort and the special vehicle on the original route. Anyone with the time and inclination is cordially invited to take some atmospheric photos or to accompany them for a while, for example, by bicycle. Of course, the “night workers” will once again be delighted by the support of the locals, with spontaneous applause from balconies and terraces in the quieter areas of Nienberge and Gievenbeck between 10:00 p.m. and midnight. Incidentally, wearing the promo shirt on this day is supposed to bring good luck for the marathon experience, even if this is more of a myth.
The many preparations for the artists are already being made with great meticulousness, the design of the Africa Mile on Himmelreichallee is being discussed in detail, and the first fan clubs have already registered for the Moo-Oh! fan project. All groups of five or more participants with a funny idea along the route should contact us quickly at info@volksbank-muenster-maratohn.de to ensure participation in the fan project. A jury will judge the fan miles along the route, and the top three will win cash prizes for a joint party.
