Hyundai Porto Half Marathon
Sun 14 September 2025
The Hyundai Porto Half Marathon is a major annual event in the city’s sports calendar, attracting runners worldwide to a unique experience along the banks of the Douro River.
The 2025 edition is scheduled for a 09.00 start at Avenida de Dom Carlos I, in Porto. In addition to the classic 21.097 km Half Marathon there is a 5km Mini Marathon, a non-competitive run open to all ages.
The previous edition reached a significant milestone by selling out registrations as early as July, reflecting the growing interest and popularity of the race. One of the most remarkable aspects was the high level of international participation, with 40% of the registrants being foreign nationals, representing a total of 79 countries. This increase in diversity enhances the cultural experience of the event while also boosting tourism and the local economy, positioning Porto as a premier destination for sports tourism.
Organizers expect an even higher number of participants for 2025, attracted by a course known for its scenic beauty and fast pace. The race starts at Avenida de Dom Carlos I right next to where the Douro River meets the Atlantic Ocean and passes through iconic locations such as Ribeira, Ponte Luis I, Alfandega do Porto, Foz, before returning to the starting point. Ribeira is one of the oldest and most typical places in the city of Porto. Located next to the Douro River, it is part of the Historic Centre of Porto, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The men’s record is held by former World Record holder Zersenay Tadese, who completed the race in 59:30. In the women’s category, Enatnesh Alamrew Tirusew set a new record in 2023 with a time of 1:07:13. These achievements highlight the race’s high competitive level and its significance in international athletics.
Beyond the competitive spirit the Hyundai Half Marathon of Porto 2025 reaffirms its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, promoting eco-friendly mobility and charitable initiatives.
Welcome to Porto.
