The 23rd edition of the Volksbank Münster Marathon is already in full swing.
The number of entries is already as high as it usually is in June of each year. There are only free places left for the 6.2 km health run and the marathon distance. All other disciplines are fully booked.
“For the health run, we are focusing on running beginners who are only starting running courses in the spring,” says Roman Horsel, one of the managing directors of H+B technics in Münster, which gives the run its name. From Monday, March 26, the so-called Mintellity running course will be held again in Münster, for which a maximum of 40 participants can register informally by email to info@volksbank-muenster-marathon.de.
As in the last two years, Carolin Sube and Michael Brinkmann will accompany those interested in running for 11 weeks, although they should be real beginners. Thanks to the great support of Mintellity GmbH, this running course is also free and non-binding. The goal after 11 hours is to run a distance of 35-40 minutes at the 2nd Münster 1KOMMA5° Urban Run and then register for the H+B technics health run over 6.2 km on September 21st.
The premiere of the 1KOMMA5° Urban Run last year was a great success, organized as part of the nationwide Running Day, presented by Wecker Druckluft in Münster. However, only 300 participants were able to take part for the test, as the city of Münster also wanted to gain experience of how running through several buildings works. And everything went very well. This means that the way is now clear for a maximum of 1,000 participants for the 2nd edition of the 1KOMMA5° Urban Run in Münster, which will again take place on the national running day, on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The registration portal will open on February 12 at www.volksbank-muenster-marathon.de. The entry fee of EUR 19 includes a high-quality functional T-shirt, which was largely financed by 1KOMMA5°.
The running circuit will again consist of an inner-city course. The start and finish will remain at Stubengassenplatz in the heart of Münster. Via the Ludgeri shopping street and the finish area of the marathon on the Prinzipalmarkt, the route then goes past Münster’s cathedral and right through the Museum of Art and Culture in Münster. From there, the route then leads along the shopping street to Münster’s green belt, the promenade, until the running route leads into the building of the Adolph Kolping vocational college, through whose long corridors you come out again almost at the end of the promenade.
Other highlights are the run through the Martini youth church, but also again through the town hall 1 in Münster and the underground car park shortly before the finish of the first lap. One lap is just under 4.5 km. A maximum of two laps can be run accompanied by running companions. The organizing team of Münster-Marathon e.V., as the organizer of the run, is already promising lots of fun with entertainment from artists and drum groups.
“The whole of Münster will be on the move this evening,” says the organizing team, looking forward to this wonderful fun run with such a great response, a good 3 ½ months before the start of the big Volksbank Münster Marathon, which is expected to attract over 11,000 participants from almost 60 nations this year.
