Boris Becker, one of the world’s most renowned tennis players and a former world No. 1, will participate in the Family Run & Friends on Saturday, February 22, during the Napoli City Half Marathon weekend.
The 2 km inclusive walk, organized by Napoli Running, promotes sports as a means of well-being and social connection. Becker, an Olympic doubles champion, three-time Wimbledon winner (and the youngest champion in the tournament’s history), and a member of the Laureus Academy, will also take a moment to speak to the youth and families in attendance before kicking off the walk.
“We are delighted to have Fondazione Laureus as our charity partner,” said Carlo Capalbo, President of Napoli Running. “We fully embrace the philosophy promoted by Fondazione Laureus, which believes that sport serves as a catalyst for growth, personal development, and social engagement—a means of overcoming daily challenges and an opportunity that all children and young people should have access to, thanks to the foundation’s work. Having a global sports icon like Boris Becker with us, as an ambassador of sport and well-being, confirms we are on the right track. Now, all that’s left is to have fun together on the streets of our beautiful city,” he concluded.
The Family Run & Friends welcomes participants of all ages, including seniors, children, and even pets. The event begins at 11 am from Mostra d’Oltremare, with registration open online and at the Expo Village.
On Sunday, February 23, the Napoli City Half Marathon will feature the Charity Relay Program, allowing participants to take part in a non-competitive relay, splitting the half marathon into two segments of 10 km and 11 km. Donations and registrations for the charity program can be made via the Rete del Dono website.
Registration for the half marathon is open until February 19, 2025, or until capacity is reached. A combined entry for Run Rome The Marathon on March 16, 2025, is also available.
