Macau Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon
Sun 7 December 2014
Founded in 1981 the Macau International Marathon is the territory’s second oldest sporting event. It is organized annually by the Macau Sports Development Board and the Athletics Association of Macau on the first Sunday of December, when the most pleasant weather conditions prevail.
This year the Macau International Marathon celebrates its 33rd edition. To cater for the needs and abilities of all runners the event offers races over three different distances, which together attract 6000 local, regional and international long distance runners.
Apart from the full Marathon and the Half Marathon, which cover the Macau peninsula and the islands of Taipa and Coloane, a Mini Marathon of 4.2km is designed to attract amateurs seeking to test their endurance. Runners of all different age groups and nationalities can challenge themselves and compete with other sports lovers on the historical stage provided by this former Portuguese colony just a short ferry ride away from Hong Kong.
The Macau International Marathon demonstrates the successful collaboration between government departments and the local sport association which has drawn in sponsorship from local enterprises and expanded. The event consolidates the positive image and goodwill of Macau in the international sports world.
