The Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival takes place in Queensland, Australia, and attracts runners from all over the world. The marathon, which features a 42.2km course that starts and finishes at the famed ‘Alex Surf Club’, offers runners a tour through one of Australia’s most picturesque coastal towns.

The race starts with breath taking views of the sun rising up from the beautiful blue Pacific Ocean. The race date provides perfect winter conditions for runners to chase a personal best time. The event’s hub, Mooloolaba, is an easy hour’s drive from Brisbane and lies directly in the heart of the Sunshine Coast region. The marathon first took place in 2012 and in the decade since has grown to become one of the most popular running events in Australia. The marathon is known for its flat, fast and scenic course, friendly atmosphere and excellent organisation.

The Marathon is part of the Sunshine Coast Running Festival, which includes a 21.1km half marathon, 10km, and 5km run and walk, together with a kids 2km race. The wide range of distances offered allows runners of all abilities to participate over the weekend.

In addition to the running events, the festival also features a health and fitness expo where participants can learn about the latest in running gear, nutrition, and training. The expo is open to the public and features a wide range of exhibitors, including local businesses, running clubs and fitness experts, as well as family-friendly activities for the kids.

The Sunshine Coast Marathon is well known for its charity partnerships with a number of local and national organisations benefiting from the event every year. Runners can choose to fundraise for the festival’s partner beneficiary, but many choose to use the event as a way to raise awareness and funds for causes close to their hearts.

In 2022 the event attracted a record field and played host to the Australian Half-Marathon Championships. With the event moving ever closer to 10,000 overall participants the announcement was made that the Sunshine Coast region will host the 2032 Olympic Marathon, Organisers Atlas Events look forward to welcoming participants from all over the globe in the coming years.
