The BMW company settled in the city and became part of our community – particularly the running community. They came together with the Maraton Internacional Tangamanga organisation and began a great journey together.

The marathon has increased numbers year by year and impacted thousands of families in a very positive way, by promoting a healthy way of life through running.

Running in San Luis Potosi offers inspiring spots to run, the nourishment of natural surroundings and a cultural experience. Over 35 years the event has developed a course that embraces dozens of historical monuments and awakens all your senses.

It is a flat course and compact enough to allow people to cheer runners on throughout its length. Relay participants start at different points along the course and keep company with the full marathon runners. Music stations and museums taking their art to the streets provide you with a distraction from the distress of racing as your mind keeps pace with music and art all along the way.

Runners from all over Mexico participate in this traditional marathon together with foreign runners travelling from more than 20 different countries. Traditional, boutique, and five-star hotels all offer great prices for participants.

San Luis Potosi offers many opportunities to shop for hand-made craft items from the different indigenous communities of the state. Santa Maria del Rio town is the home of the traditional “rebozo” and is about 30 minutes away. If you make the trip you can buy silk shawls and witness the traditional process by which these garments are created in the Rebozo Museum.

There are many first-class restaurants from different national cuisines in San Luis Potosi, but the most highly recommended is the “huasteca” food with the most delicious flavours imaginable.
